Helplessness is an avoidable human characteristic and entirely absent from my man programming (man-gramming?). But, There’s no point avoiding it, I had to squelch a worthwhile cohabitation which meant a lot for us but essentially would never last. I guess somone might say it may have been years since I dated someone new. I don’t have the great expectations in relationships that came naturally before.

I’m not used to being single. It’s a given that I won’t be reduced to lounge about, faithfully watching Lost on my big screen. The real cause of this bout of weekend dating boredom? The people I know are settling down, and everyone else is boring.

My former football pal, Josh, who has never had dating lameness, informed me he’s currently shooting from the same blind as I am. He introduced me to this Dallas dating service called Great Expectations. Not usually my thing, but I take to chatting up fun singles with similar interests. Surprise, I put myself on a plan and became a member.

I told myself, ya can’t grovel due to going dateless if you haven’t called anyone. Like our mentor and football coach Terry Simms often said with a smile, “You’ll never win a race you don’t run, Jeff.”

Coach was crazy, and a little out of touch. But, the old man was on the money without being self-righteous. He was likable in all ways. The fun company offering matchmaking services in Dallas that I use might have short circuted the gipper’s shiny bald head.

At yesterday’s Great Expectations dating events I met some substantive and attractive women that meet my eye. I actually had a blast with dozens of intelligently remarkable singles. The evening ended with a sweet farewell, and even developed some political connections for my company. I’m impressed.

Put yourself in the play. You won’t go wrong if you don’t. Listen to me and you might as well have great expectations for for your own good.
