At this time of year, many people decide enough is enough, and that they will lose some weight. For most, it’s an annual event where a gym is joined, salad is bought, and this all lasts about three of four weeks.

There are much easier ways to help yourself get trim at this time of year. Using the right equipment is the main part of it. Owning and using a bicycle can be a huge benefit to any fitness regime. Cycling works a number of muscles in the body, as well as giving the heart a very good work-out. There are thousands of cycle-paths in the UK which can be used in pretty much any weather. Cycling can be a fun exercise when it is raining hard, and very muddy. In contrast, a leisurely bike ride in the sun can be very nice.

Walking is also an excellent way of exercising, as it works a larger number of muscles than you are probably aware of. There are different types of footwear you can use to excerpter in different ways. A good paid of running shoes will give you a straight down-the-line workout, and will ultimately mean comfort in any terrain. You could also try the revolutionary fit flops, which are manufactured in a way that makes the most of your walking exercise. You may also use a fit flops discount voucher code to save extra money on your purchase.

The basis of any good weight loss program is control of diet. Snacking, and over-eating at meals plays a major role in weight gain. Cutting down on your diet can lead to dramatic, and often very satisfying results. You should always exercise regardless, as being slim does not necessarily mean you have a healthy body. Exercise is key!

The correct kit and the right court are very important for a first-rate game of tennis. Below is a guide of the basic necessities. Enjoy excellent tennis and fishing rods offers on the Internet today.

Tennis Racket Choice: A well weighted, skilfully designed racquet is a tremendous investment for great tennis. Fifty to one hundred pounds invested in a racket of nationally known quality will be money well spent. The handle of the tennis racquet is advised to be small. A circumference of 4 and a half inches is advised for beginners.

Most of the modern rackets balance heavier in the grip than in the head for quicker action. When obtaining a tennis racquet, the player is suggested to swing a number of different tennis racquets and discover the exact one that best suits them.

Protection of Racket: The racquet is suggested to be stored in a press & waterproof container at all times when it is not being used. All through the winter months the tennis racquet is advised to be located in a dry place, where no moisture can reach it. Otherwise the string fibres are likely to rot & the frame to get out of shape.

Tennis Balls: Wright and Ditson, Spalding, Wilson, Dunlop, or Pennsylvania tennis balls which bear the current year and official seal should be bought as frequently as required. Balls are good only for a certain amount of time as the felt cover remains intact, and the bounce is ideal.

Nets: Cotton tennis nets (costing roughly 12 pounds) are all right for intermittent play in the fitness centre or improvised lawn tennis courts.

Outside tennis nets ought to be built of tarred hemp, with robust canvas top, and steel or rope cable. If strung on a steel cable, the tennis net may be left out over night without loosening, alternatively with a rope cable, the net should be slackened each & every night. Nets will last a great deal longer if they are taken in at night & when it drizzles. A high-quality net will cost about twenty to 60 pounds. Steel nets, entirely weatherproof, are increasing in popularity especially for winter play.

On-line sports gambling webpages are all modulated via 3 organisations. They are the OSGA (the Offshore Gaming Association), IGC (Interactive Gaming Council) and finally the Fidelity Trust Gaming Association FTGA. Memphis G Douglas-Roberts heading to NBA

The OSGA is in fact a self-governing watchdog agency which watches the modern offshore sports gaming industry, they labor to also present sports betting lovers the ability to readily find trust-worthy organizations to play games of fortune on, without stress. It strives to support sports betting devotee’s rights, and they don’t demand any membership expenses. The association are an expert not to mention unbiased third party agency who reveal nonpartisan viewpoints, built around your feedback, nonpartisan research, chats, prompts and also offers inside bulletins.

The Interactive Gaming Council are a nonprofit agency. There are organizations which supervise the dealings of internet sports gambling and which should serve to alleviate most of the fears because of insecurity experienced by doubters. Networked sports gaming internet sites are at present altogether harmless, in that personal details aren’t requested and the rewards not to mention the gaming odds should be as uniform and reasonable as in a regular Vegas-type stake. They eliminate travel, but nonetheless maintain of a Vegas casino, but now you may bet at your own PC.

RC gliders are a
fun and challenging segment of the radio control hobby. These airplanes can stay
up for hours, powered only by nature! They fly silently and gracefully, like
sailboats of the air. In addition they are among the simplest and most
economical type of rc vehicle to build, maintain and operate. There are a
few different types of rc glider.

Winches or “hi-starts”
are generally used to launch large thermal gliders, from a flat field,
and into rising currents of warm air (“thermals”). Thermals are
created by uneven heating of the ground. The challenge is to
ride these currents to stay up for a pre-determined time. There are
international contests that test this ability of the pilot, as well as
spot-landing skills.

Handlaunch
airplanes are thrown by hand from a flat field, and also flown into thermals.
Here the pilot needs good launch technique, as well as flying and landing
skills. Launch technique has borrowed from the track-and-field world, with
overhead javelin launches now being replaced by the discus launch
technique.

The slope glider
is actually thrown over the side of hill! This sounds like a silly thing
to do, but if there is sufficient wind and slope, the airplane will start flying.
Seagulls use the same principles to fly without flapping their wings. If
the wind direction and speed cooperate, flights of one (1) hour are well within
reach. Slope gliders can be light and stable airplanes, or heavy monsters
designed for strong winds, racing or aerobatics.

It’s an acquired skill
to read what the air is doing to get good flights, but when done correctly,
there is a real feeling of accomplishment. This is a large part of what
makes RC gliders such a unique and fulfilling hobby.

If you need a tryout format for your league, All-Stars, or for an individual team, here are some good guidelines that are flexible and give coaches a good idea of the players’ abilities.

Make sure you run them. Whatever distances your bases are, make sure they run a dash from home to first and a dash from home to second. Time and log everything!

HINT: Run them side by side if you are running in the outfield. The competition makes for better times.

Hitting will make or break a team. Have a coach or a consistent pitching machine throw about 10 pitches to every player. Giving only 3 or 4 pitches may eliminate some good hitters. Don’t always look for the guy who can knock one over the fence if he strikes out a lot. Look for the guys who hit the ball hard, hopefully gap doubles. While some players are hitting, make sure you have other groups doing something else, such as running or fielding. Don’t put all the guys on the field and have them play a game…..yet. When picking your team, always pick the guy that may hit for average and hopefully, some power. Remember, base hits will win you more ball games than the occasional long ball.

Fielding…. When hitting to them, make sure you hit pop ups, grounders, line drives, slow rollers, and make them go right and left. I would take a guy who is a below average hitter and an above average fielder rather than a good hitter and a poor fielder (you just run out of places to hide them on defense, especially if you have more than one of this type of player). Offense wins games but pitching and defense prevents losses. Another potential problem to avoid is the guy that is very limited to one position. This absolutely will hurt you more than you can imagine. You will find yourself realigning an entire team’s defense when that one catcher-only or 1st baseman-only player is on your roster.
Let me list what positions need what attributes:

Catcher- Needs to be a very loud, aware take charge guy; May be even the smartest and most baseball-knowledgeable player on your team. You can’t have a slow catcher, he must be agile and quick. If not, sooner or later it will come back to haunt you.

1st baseman- Also can’t be very slow or it will hurt you. He must be able to cover some ground as more infield errors occur from bad throws than missed balls!

2nd baseman- Quick hands and quick feet. Doesn’t have to be very big so he needs to be able to make contact at the plate especially if he is small and doesn’t bring too much pop with the bat.

Shortstop- The leader of your infield and very quick and hopefully, fast. If he can’t cover the whole left side of the infield, than he should be a 2nd baseman. Should be very athletic and maybe your leadoff or #2 hitter.

3rd baseman- Strong arm, doesn’t have to be the quickest but should be able to cover the line because your shortstop will cover to his left if he can’t reach it. The older the player, the more he is looked at as a power guy.

Left Fielder- Should be able to charge in very well because he needs to play deeper than most of your outfielders due to so many right-handed pull hitters. Doesn’t need the best arm but couldn’t hurt.

Center Fielder- Good to great arm, should be one of the best and quickest athletes on your team. If he can’t cover much ground, don’t pick him or put him in left or right if he has a superior arm. He gives the corner outfielders confidence. Remember…the game is won “Up the Middle”!

Right Fielder- Big arm, needs to make the longest throws on the field. Again, the older the player, the more he is expected to hit for power. Doesn’t need great speed, covers limited amount of ground.

Always watch players warm up and practice when they are not “in the spotlight;” that will tell you a lot about how they play.

Always make sure most of your team can pitch or catch. You can never run out of those. Pitchers at the younger levels tend to be the most athletic and/or advanced players.

In the end, play a game. Here’s the best idea I have. Line them up and number off by threes. The 1’s hit, the 2’s play infield, and the 3’s play outfield. A coach or machine pitches. Start them with a 1 ball and 1 strike count to speed it up. Pitch average fastball speed for the age group, nothing on either extreme. You will see a lot of repetitions, situations etc. and the guys will relax and have some fun.

Remember, kids know how to play, some just don’t “test” as well as others.

Coach JP’s Note:

When evaluating baseball talent…
Think Arm Speed, Bat Speed, Foot Speed
And never forget, attitude, and all that that implies.

The battle of the WBC Super Welterweight Crown promises to be an exciting crash between Oscar de la Hoya and Ricardo Mayorga. De la Hoya will be looking for glory once again but the element that will make the fight more exciting is the fact that they are so opposite in the way they fight. What rises doubt is whether the Golden Boy can o cannot beat his opponent’s ways. He will be facing a boxer that has little consideration for his opponents, and his careless style has benefited him in the past take as an example when he fought Andrew Lewis, Vernon Forrest but not always a plus like when he fought Tito Trinidad. Once thing is for sure, we are going to have a fun time finding it out.

De La Hoya is coming off a long period of forced inactivity when he was knocked out in the 9th round when fighting Bernard Hopkins in September of 2004. And coming off such a devastating defeat, many wonder if he will be able to stand up to the free-swinging WBC Champion.

De La Hoya has being doing more of the traditional work out program; he is looking for a regimen not only for this fight but something that will lead him back to victory. This fight is important for De la Hoya if he wants to pursue the world championship again and retire as one.

The feeling is mixed as to if Oscar can be successful against the Nicaraguan wild man. Many believe Oscar should easily out box Mayorga, but there are others who believe the former Welterweight champion will have too much power for the Golden Boy.

Denver and our Front Range area is a dream vacation area for avid golfers.

At current count, there were 63 public courses listed in the Denver Yellow Pages and it seems they open a new course just about every week, In fact, my son used to say he wanted to play every course in the Denver metro area, but gave up the idea when he realized they were literally building courses faster than he could play them.

The air is thin here at a mile high, so the good news is that your drives will probably go 15 to 25 yards farther than you’re used to – assuming you normally play at or near sea level. The good/bad news is that you will have to adjust your use of irons and fairway woods. My suggestion is that the first time you play one of our courses, you view it as an experiment. For example, if you think you’re within a 3 Wood of the green, try hitting with a 5 Wood and see what happens. Or, if you think you’re within a Pitching Wedge of the green, see what happens if you use a Lob Wedge or Sand Wedge. My guess is that you will be able to adjust your game to fit our thin air in less than 18 holes.

So far as Denver golf courses are concerned, we have some that are both challenging and fun. My person favorite is Arrowhead Golf Course. It is up in the foothills and the scenery is just spectacular. The course’s signature hole is its 13th and the minute you walk up to the tee box, you’ll see why Arrowhead is so proud of it. Another course that’s both beautiful and challenging is Red Hawk Ridge, which is near the town of Castle Rock and is about a 45 minute drive from downtown Denver.

You’ll find very little water on our courses. In fact, I often play 18 holes with the same ball – unless, of course, I lose one in the rough.

Most of our courses are called “links style” courses. Three I like are Murphy Creek, Canterbury, and Buffalo Run. We also have some nice executive length courses, including The Links, Littleton Golf, and my personal favorite, Homestead at Fox Hollow.

Week day tee times at these courses are fairly easy to get. If you want to play on the weekend, you best call four to five days in advance.

Golf at a mile high is a blast in more ways than one. So, schedule a Denver vacation and start calling for tee times.

Ironman-Coeur d’alene was the only race I attempted that was two loops of all three events. Originally, I didn’t think I would care too much for it. Especially the swim. I thought it might be a slower time than normal because you actually come out of the water after lap one and run across the beach to begin lap two. Also not being a swimmer, I thought it might be a bit of a let-down to have to get back into the water after reaching shore.

I was completely wrong. I actually had one of my best swim times in Ironman-Coeur d’alene. Also, leaving the water between loops was a bit of a break from the repetitious strokes of the front crawl.

The one thing that sticks out in my mind however, is that the swim-start area is quite congested, and things can be a little hairy, especially in the early going. There is a preferred swim strategy you should use for this course and you can find in in my “Ironstruck” website or contact me and I will fill you in if Ironman-Coeur d’alene is on your schedule.

The bike course was very interesting and features several down-hill, very fast, sweeping curves. Pay attention to the “slow-down” warning signs. You won’t encounter the “massive” climbs that Ironman Canada features, but will find plenty of rolling hills and several long, flat stretches. You even make your way though a grey-hound race track at one point. The benefit of a 2-loop bike course is that you know exactly what to expect the second time around and are more aware of the challenging high speed turns.

I suppose the most difficult leg to do twice was the marathon. Its really pretty cruel to bring you right past the entrance to the transition area at the end of the first loop. You really have to grit your teeth and push through the turn-around on the Ironman-Coeur d’alene marathon course and head back out toward the highway. If I had a choice, I would much rather do an out and back course.

All in all Ironman-Coeur d’alene was an excellent experience. Considering it is quite a new event, the organization was excellent and the volunteers are second to none. Also its a beautiful, picturesque area for an Ironman and I’m sure you won’t go wrong by giving this race a try.

I can see in the near future that Ironman-Coeur d’alene will be a race that will fill quickly and will require very early registration to gain entry.

All 32 teams have played two matches as the World Cup groups have started to take shape. Some teams have qualified for the knockout stage while others will sweat on the last match. This is a short round-up of Groups E to H, of the results as they stand after two matches.

Group E
1. Italy 4pts, 2. Czech Republic 3pts, 3. Ghana 3pts, 4. USA 1pt

Italy drew 1-1 with the USA in a bad tempered game to lead Group E by a single point. Alberto Gilardino broke the deadlock after 22 minutes but an own goal from Cristian Zaccardo five minutes later drew the sides level. Daniel de Rossi was sent off for the Italians after 28 minutes while Pablo Mastroeni and Eddie Pope saw red for the Americans after 45 and 47 minutes.

The Czech Republic are in real danger of not qualifying from the “Group of Death” after Ghana defeated them 2-0. Gyan Asamoah sent the Black Stars on their way inside the first minute and Sulley Muntari sealed an unlikely 7/2 (Coral) victory with nine minutes left.

Group F
1. Brazil 6pts, 2. Australia 3pts, 3. Croatia 1pt, 4. Japan 1pt

Brazil are still not firing on all cylinders but made it two victories out of two against plucky Australia. Adriano got off the mark three minutes into the second half but it wasn’t until substitute Fred struck two minutes from time that a 1/4 (Coral) victory was secured.

Croatia need to beat Australia in their final match to have any hope of qualifying after a goalless draw against Japan. Former Portsmouth goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi was inspired in the first half and saved a penalty from Darijo Srna to keep the scoreline level.

Group G
1. Switzerland 4pts, 2. South Korea 4pts, 3. France 2pts, 4. Togo 0pts

Switzerland topped the group after a comfortable victory against rock bottom Togo. Alexander Frei gave the 4/6 (Coral) Swiss the perfect start after 16 minutes and Tranquillo Barnetta added a second with three minutes remaining.

Former world champions France need a victory against Togo if they are to qualify for the last 16 after throwing away a lead against South Korea. Thierry Henry gave France the lead after eight minutes but Les Bleus failed to capitalise on a dominant performance and allowed Park Ji-Sung to snatch an equaliser with 10 minutes left.

Group H
1. Spain 6pts, 2. Ukraine 3pts, 3. Tunisia 1pt, 4. Saudi Arabia 1pt

Spain continued their promising start to the tournament after coming from behind to beat Tunisia 3-1. Jawhar Mnari capitalised on a defensive mistake to give Tunisia the lead after seven minutes and it wasn’t until the final 20 minutes that 1/2 (Coral) justified their price. Substitute Raul levelled on 71 and Fernando Torres put Spain in front four minutes later. Torres became the Cup’s leading goalscorer with three goals when he converted an injury time penalty.

Ukraine’s qualification to the second round was back on track after they crushed Saudi Arabia 4-0, wiping out the negative goal difference sustained by a same score defeat by Spain in the first match. Andriy Rusol opened the scoring after three minutes, Sergei Rebrove struck a magnificent second on 35, Andriy Shevchenko scored on the stroke of half-time and Maksim Kalinichenko netted the fourth on 83.

Stipe Pletikosa is a Croatian goalkeeper who donned his country’s jersey at the tender age of 20. It was a debut that won both applause as well as brickbats for the young lad. The praise came for his quick reflexes and for the speed with each Pletikosa moved in front of the goal line; the criticism was directed at his inability to handle high balls, despite a 193 cm frame.
This weakness cost the under-21 Croatian team dearly in the 2000 European championship. The team came last thanks to some clumsy work by Pletikosa under the bars.

The wounded Pletikosa took the help of a former Croatian coach Mirko Jozi to overcome his weakness. His hard work paid off and he was soon back as his country’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 2002 World Cup finals. It was a good return too for Pletikosa managed to block or deflect several high balls in the three games he played.

An injury saw Pletikosa lose the first goalkeeper’s position to Tomislav Butina at the Euro 2004. But Pletikosa was no pushover. He was back in his country’s squad for the 2006 World Cup finals.
Besides his country, Pletikosa has played for Hajduk Split and Shakhtar Donetsk.
